Did you know that the founder’s of Awakened Spirit Yoga has a non-profit called WELLKIND? Julia Forest and her husband Suvas Vajracharya began WELLKIND in 2018. Currently, the non-profit has programs running in California & Guatemala to cultivate economic and ecological wellness.
We interviewed the Executive Director, Catriona Glazebrook, to share about their mission and vision.
What were the initial intentions behind WELLKIND?
WELLKIND’s mission is to WORK AT THE INTERSECTION OF PERSONAL, COMMUNITY AND PLANETARY HEALTH TO SOW THE SEEDS OF WELLNESS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
What do you hope WELLKIND gives to the world?
WELLKIND brings to the world the much needed understanding that relationships are at the center of everything. Relationship to self, family, community and the planet are the most important things in life. Thus, WELLKIND seeks to strengthen the relationship between the Earth and Humankind, and to support local leaders who heal our communities and families.
If you could pick 4-5 words to describe WELLKIND, what would they be?
Holistic – Ecological – Community Centered – Innovative
Where do you see the program heading in the next few years? What are your long term goals?
🌿Supporting local leaders having a significant impact in supporting local communities and restoring ecology.
🌿Shifting paradigm re: western societies people’s understanding, connection to and actions in nature.
🌿Providing innovative science education & vocational training to youth to prepare them for new careers at the intersection of planetary and human wellbeing.
🌿Providing K-12 students a foundation of understanding, based on the newest science.
🌿Of how to live in our new emerging world with an emphasis on protecting all life.
How do you stay inspired?
Spending time in Nature. Seeing our young people being inspired and beginning to take a lead in new ways of imagining our world.
Any advice you have for someone who’d like to create their own nonprofit / share their unique gifts with the world?
Do It! The world needs what nonprofits have to provide. This is because they are a powerful way of organizing people to work together for beneficial reasons – service to humanity and the planet. My wish is that some day all organizations are only allowed to exist that have at the heart of their charter – the overriding purpose of SERVICE to others and to all life. Once this happens – we will all be living in a more peaceful, healthy world that considers the needs of not just seven generations in the future but the needs of all life and Gaia herself.
The time is now for new bold ideas and actions to bring us into an emerging world.
